I'm trying to design some composite steel beams (W sections with steel deck and concrete), however the AISC manuals (both ASD and LRFD) only provide solutions for a limited group of beams. Does any one have additional tables for steel composite design or know of a quick solution of all W sections?

Thanks, but I'm looking for some information on perfoming a hand calculation. You know, the kind we use to check programs like enercalc!

There are good books available for the design of composite beams. You can refer to steel designers manual. It is as per British standards. But the principles are same whether you follow ASCI or any other code. You can refer to the SCI ( Steel construction Institute -UK)for their publication Steel construction manual.

mr. sea,

my bad, I guess I took your last question "or know of a quick solution of all W sections" to mean a quick solution to solve for all W sections.

Try this... transform the slab into an equivalent steel area (make sure the beam and concrete is considered composite). Next, determine the neutral axis. Calculate the moment of inertia. Determine the allowable stress and then find the resisting moment!

Many structural steel books have this design example, including the AISC. "You know", the kind you buy in stores! Maybe someone can provide you with more tables, however, I would recommend calculating all the "I" values for self gratification.

try the aisc.org website under Steel TIPS there is a free pdf document regarding LRFD composite beam design with deck.

Zennis,

I've been throught those steel tips and they only use the sizes found in the manual!! They don't address any other sizes.
