Hey guys,

I am trying to calculate and check the design strength of plate bolt connection. So to do this i am following J3-2 of the AISC code book. The part that i got stock and hopping someone here can explain to me is how to calculate the Frv in J3-3B equation. I have 4.5kip shear force and 3.15kip tension action on 5/8" bolts (0.226in^2 area).

AISC Design Examples v14.1, Example J3 indicates that the frv is calculated by taking the dividing the shear load by the bolt area. Specifically the example uses the bolt area listed by AISC SCM in Table 7-1.
