Coin edge on shim stock

We are having issues cutting 302SS .004" Shim stock. we are getting a dime edge. at this place they are using an old S48 CO2 Laser, does it in pulsed and CW and in different locations.

One thing you may want to check. See if the material is bouncing. That thin, that much gas pressure, you are bound to have some movement.

I have seen material bouncing up and down relative to the nozzle causing the kerf to get wider and narrower with the distance from the focal point.

Just a though...
 
did you try moving the axes by hand to see if they're smooth? could be a bellows or something dragging

It turned out to be noise in the x axis, a perfect oscillation, probably the encoder.
