I have a metal piece put on the bottom of a shoe that first needs to be coated with a material that would be able to stand up to the abrasive use. I was thinking of the material used for in line or skateboard wheels. Not sure if this material will adhere to metal. Your comments appreciated.

Polyurethane (PUR) is used for skate wheels. PUR can adhere to metal, but you may need a bonding agent if the forces are high.

Please see FAQ731-376 for tips on how to make the best use of Eng-Tips Fora.

Polyurethane can be made in a wide range of hardnesses and can be very good for abrasion resistance but is practically impossible to stick onto anything.
Rubber is somewhat lower down the resistance scale but better to stick on. it all depends on what you are trying to dp.
