CHT Plate

Dear Folks;

A steel hopper for a dust collector that I am replacing calls for 3/16" CHT Plate liner over top of the 3/16" hopper walls.

I think it it is probably some sort of abasion resistant ceramic product but I am not sure. Could someone let me know if they have experience with this product, what it is and where I could find it.

Hi,

I have heard of cast iron liners used in steel plants in Blast furnaces,Their exact location is not in my memory right now,But I can find out.
Usually The cast iron liner has a high %age of moly. which gives it good Hardness to abrasion.
Also,After a long time usage The liner is replaced with a fresh liner saving the base material.
Is this what you are looking for?

Dear Cranekiran;

Sounds good to me. This hopper will be an in-kind replacement for one which was built 25 years ago. The drawings show this CHT material as 3/16" thick rectangular pieces varying in size but all less than 24" x 24". The material is secured to the inside of the hopper on 4 corners by threaded studs, washers and acorn nuts. The fact that it came in such small pieces made me think it was a ceramic product, only available in limited widths.

If you have any information on this cast iron liner, please forward it. I would like to track it down. Your help is greatly appreciated.

You can buy harden & abrasion resistant steel plate off the shelf. Talk to a dust collector manufacturer or your local steel supplier and they will tell what is in use today.

The part that is abrasion resistant is usually at the inlet of the dust collector and part way down the hopper. It's been a couple of years since was involved in the installation of dust collectors and although I was inside them I don't recall the extent of the plating.

The extent of plating would depend on what material you are handling.

CHT is indeed an abrasive plate, I don't have the specs in front of me right now, but going from memory it's available in more that one grade. A few that come to mind is cht100, 360, 420.....the grade depending on the alloy elements, some can be cold worked some not, some drilled, easliy, some not and so on....Mike

Here's the info.:-

The cast iron liner that I mentioned is used in coke ovens in Steel plants and not in blast furnace as I had thought.It is more of a heat resistant liner given to a slope where hot coke falls and slides on the surface.

Now,About the liner used in Blast furnaces is a High manganese steel,the spec. is 13GL(RUSSIAN STANDARD)(HIGH MN STEEL),Also known as Hadfields steel.It is a liner for chutes and bunkers where abrasion materials like coke,Limestone and iron ore are carried and charged into the furnace.The beauty of this steel is it's work hardness actually increases with the usage.The %age of MN. is 13% so the name 13GL,Also, It is a medium carbon steel.This steel is regarded as the best material for liners where both heat resistance as well as abrasion resistance is needed.The cost of this steel is also lot cheaper than other steel family materials.
you can find out the more about 13GL from any steel plant in your country.
