Cell Showing Formula, not Result

Hi,
I have a small question:
In a worksheet that prepared by others, I want to put a formula in a cell. But when I put there, I see just formula and not result of formula?!
To let you know,other part of worksheet is only Text.

Have you tried to reformat the cell as "General" or "Number?"

You may also want to make sure there is an "=" sign leading off the equation.

Yes, there is = ahead of formula.
I changed cell property to number.
But they didn't work!

Check under Tools|Options|View|Window Options and make sure Formulas is not checked, because that will always show formulas.

Is it really a formula? Or is it text that just looks like a formula?

Your problem must be that the cell was originally formatted as Text, so it just displays exactly what was typed into it, even a formula (like "=A1+B1"). You have been given half of the answer in a previous response; make sure you change the format of the cell(s) to General. However, after doing that, you must then select the cell(s) and use the Excel Edit|Replace function to replace all the "=" with "="; this will force the cells to recalculate and the formala(e) will work!

Also, check the cell in question. Click on the cell and look at the contents in the typing line near the top of the screen. If there is an apostrophe before the = sign, delete it. The apostrophe sign makes the formula a text entry.

For example, entering =2+3 will show 5 but entering '=2+3 will show =2+3

another thing you can try, if all cells are showing formulas instead of results: hit ctrl-` (same key as ~).
