Do a cantilever retaining wall need to be below the frost depth at the toe?

We usually place the bottom of the cantilever retaining wall footing below frost.

Same here... and we sometimes use insulation to minimise the excavation at the toe... Typical frost penetration in these environs is 6'...

How much of insulation is needed to decrease 3'-6" frost depth to 2'-0" i.e 1' of cover over toe and 12" thick slab.

A couple of inches and it should extend a couple of feet beyond the toe... Check with Dow-Corning... they have some info on the use of this.
