C60 soil refers to a type of soil that has a unit weight of 120 pcf and an at rest coefficient K0 of 0.5. Therefore, the shoring system must be designed for a lateral soil pressure of 60 psf. For example, a trench 10 feet deep would have a lateral pressure of 600 psf at the bottom. Likewise, a C45 soil has a lateral soil pressure of 45 psf. Note that these pressures are to be used for shoring systems subjected to "at rest" pressures, not active pressures.
