Branch Panel Vs. Distribution Panel

What is the difference. I'm assuming branch panel is a panel with final OCPD and distribution panel is not. Thanks.
 
A distribution panel feeds MCCs, branch panels and/or major motor loads.
A branch panel may feed small sub-panels without being considered a distribution panel.

OBSERVATION:[ The NEC has a language such as "..... load side of the service disconnect overcurrent device, including SPDs located at the [highlight #FCE94F]branch panel[/highlight]".
However, there is no official definition listed in Article 100, as can see in the following Link
