Hey guys,

How do you go about bracing your 8"+ CFS stud walls? The normal methods I use are not available for walls wider than 6" (CRC) so was wondering what methods are usually used for this.

Thank you!

I don't usually deal with studs that wide, and I'm not sure what limitation you're running into, but maybe use track sections with strapping? Cut track sections a few inches longer than the stud spacing, clip the flanges and bend it back so the fit snug between the studs, screw the bend portions into the face of the studs. Then run a continuous strap along the face of the wall (the tension side doesn't work so well on the bent track).

Are you asking about local bracing (i.e. the compression flange) or global bracing (lateral system)?

@phamENG got it, Mostly running into manufacturer limitations but that method makes sense thank you!

I don't like using these on 8" studs as I don't feel there is enough torsional stiffness in the system (1 1/2" CRC and the clip) to adequately prevent stud rotation. Back when I was doing a bunch of CFMF design, we always used block and strap on anything over 6"
