I have plotted a number of points from a CMM report in the sketcher they are all on the same plane, I have a total of 28 points around 360deg, but I need to know what the best fit diameter would be to the series of points.
Prior to NX 8.5 (to be released in the Fall) there was no direct function to do this. You either had to manually do the best job possible or else depend on a custom application written in NX Open. However, starting with NX 8.5 we have enhanced the 'Fit Curve' function to include exactly what you're asking for, being able to select a series of points and selecting one of several 'best fit' curves types to be created, either a Spline, Line, Ellipse or Cirle. This will be a very dynamic function allowing you to explicitly pick (either actual point objects or 'snap points' from existing geometry such as curves or edges of bodies) or chain select points and then to add and remove points while providing feedback as to how 'good' the fit is both visually and by indicating the average and the maximum deviation from the points selected.
Not that the resulting curve will be created as a Feature meaning that it will be associative to the original points, which will make it very easy to edit the fitted curve by either adding or removing points in the future or by moving the original points which will result in a new 'best fit' curve.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
I have managed what I needed, through using another package, but I appreciate the feedback so that I dont spend anymore time on this matter within NX 6.0
