I have to help client put a WPS together for lap splice of # 11 bar , looking @ para. 3.6 "Lap Joints" reqs. dbl flare V groove welds (fig 3.4 (A) , except that a single flare V groove may be used if accessible from one side only , and approved by Eng.

Para . 3.6.2 also show a indirect lap splice with a splice plate,

My ? I don't see a fig. associated with the single flare V groove option , as we'er faced with that issue.it would seem to me that the single flare V groove weld option would req. a larger flare weld but maybe not

The note in 3.6.1 allows the EOR to make the call for acceptability if only one side can be accessed...in theory the bead of the weld should not be above the surface of the bar.

3.4 (B) is an alternative for 3.4(A.

An alternative to the above would be a bar coupler either in lap position of direct position. The bar can either be threaded or lock screws Lenton from Erico is one maker.
