I have a couple hundered configurations I will have to make simple drawings for. Simple being roughly 5 dimensions (length width thread hex size etc.)

What's they best way to automate the process of simple 2d drawing creation? I know task scheduler can create drawings how well does it work? Do I setup my template to import model dimensions? How does scaling work?

Anyone know of any free tutorials I can run through before I jump into this?

Thanks for any help.

never tried with task scheduler. You can make one template and then a macro can be used to fix the drawing work.

Check this macro Auto-create Drawing from Model (url You have to register to download the macro.

Your best bet would of been to have used something like DriveWorks or DriveWorksXpress to generate the models and drawings all at once. From the point you are at you can use the task scheduler. This will create the drawing and the views with the proper template setup, but you will need to manually dimension each drawing.

Missed typed. I have to create a few hundred configurations and then simple drawings for. So no I have not created the models yet. I will look in to driveworks. I see there is a tutorial. Anyone know of another?

Secondly I assumed task scheduler would import the dimensions from the model when creating the drawing. Figured if I set my template and model up correctly everything would be created and populated. I would possibly just have to go back a do some clean up. No?

Thanks

Grunt58, yes Task Scheduler can work the way you describe. You just have to set up your template(s) with the correct settings. Not sure about the config though? I'm not sure there is a way to tell Task Scheduler which config to use for the drawing?

Shoot never thought of that. That might derail my whole plan. I will look more into and into driveworks.

Is this a task you will have to repeat often?

Are you wanting to create one multi-sheet, or multiple single-sheet drawings?

Will the drawing name/number match the config name/number?

One possibility is to create a master drawing with the needed views and dimensions, then use a macro to;
Copy the drawing
Change the views to the next config from a referenced list
Save the drawing to the same name as the config or per another referenced list

Perhaps one of the macrobating gurus here will offer some assistance or pointers.

No, not often. I have a few models with configs ranging in # from 10-200.

Multiple single sheet drawings. To post to our website so a single drawing with a table is not possible. I assume that would be suggested at some point. The drawings will be used similar to how mcmaster carr offers viewable drawings for there fasteners.

Yes, drawing name will match config name.

Thant sounds like it would work great. Might be some clean up work with scale size but that is fine.

I have no clue as how to write a macro to do that.

Can someone help?

Just thought of a round about way.

Make the configs in one file with design table then use a macro to split the configs into single part files, we have a macro from our VAR to do that. Then use task scheduler to create the drawings. The mulitple config problem and task scheduler would not be an issue anymore.

I lose the benefite of a design table after I split them though.

A macro for the drawing or driveworks would be a better way.

Just talked to my VAR he said task scheduler wont do drawings for individual configs.

So I need a macro anybody care to help or have one?

I tried the anglesix one it gave me an error. I'll see if Luke will help me sort it out.

Talked to the driveworks people and they informed me that driveworksXpresss will not create configurations nor will it be able to use the spread sheet I have with all my variables. I'd have to manually fill out each form.

So I think my best bet is to use a design table and try and figure out how to get a macro to copy a drawing and change the config. then save as config name. There will be some manual clean up but that is fine.

If anyone can help with that I'd be very appreciative.

Thanks

Was hoping someone would help a brother out and maybe had a macro to copy drawings?

For anyone who is following this thread, AMCBridge eXperts has shared a wonderful macro on SolidWorks forum. The macro will create the drawing for each configuration and will put the marked dimensions on the drawings.
