After I place a part in an assembly and add constraints it gets flipped upside-down. I use the XZ plane, the YZ plane, and two part surfaces as the mating constraints. I've created the constraints in various order with the same result.

Can someone suggest what I am doing wrong?

You are mating two planes that have opposing normal directions. When you mate planes, Inventor mates their normal "front" surfaces by default. You can either right click on one of the planes and "flip normal", or you can switch your mating constraint solution to "Flush" instead of "Mate". I would lean toward using the "flush" mating solution instead of flipping the normal face of the plane to avoid messing with other constrains that may be made to that plane.
