I have read extensively on straight length and flow conditioning relative to orifice plates, nozzles and venturi.

I cannot seem to find guidance on the following simple question.

What is the REQUIRED upstream straight length between an orifice plate and a "fitting" (an elbow for example) when a flow conditioner is used?

Key words are "required" and "with" flow conditioner.

I see very often it is stated that using a flow conditioner can reduce the required upstream length,..... but to what?

Any help is much appreciated.

Here we don't use the term "flow conditioner", we normally call it "Straightening Vanes" (SV).
If SVs are used you might be able to reduce the upstream run to one half the length required for an Orifice Plate.

However, I would recommend you consider a switch to:
- a Rotor Meter, it thrives on turbulence -
- a Non-Contact Flow Meter, it normally does not care about turbulance -

Sometimes its possible to do all the right things and still get bad results

Pennpiper,
Thanks?
Nothing helpful there for me.....

"reduce by half"...comes from?

Seems like a post to sell instrumart product????

Have you looked at Iso 5167?

Everything I've seen says this is your key document.

Remember - More details = better answers

DOH!

MFC and ISO are not so similar when searching for this answer

Indeed ISO has it explicitly!

Thank you!!!!!!!!
