I am working with a client who has taken in-house about 15 molds that had been built and run off shore. They have 100 mm locating rings; his presses have 4.000 locating holes in the platen. The rings vary from simple types to more complex recessed sprue, three-plate types. These molds will be set up infrequently for short runs. Has anyone any ideas short of remaking all the rings that would enable them to be centered in the platens? Has anyone tried wrapping shim stock around an undersize ring and fastening it somehow
(adhesive or welding)?

Changing the platen hole size ring does not appear to be very easy (presses are very old).

Thank you

Jerzy

Hello Pud,

Thanks for the quick reply, Pud, and the great idea:
sure beats the alternatives we were thinking about.

I have been following this forum for several years and have been impressed with the quality of many of your responses.

It might be several weeks until we try some of these molds, but I'll let you know how it works out for us.

Thanks again.

A star for Pud.

Not for doing it.

For admitting it.

Like Mike said.

I was thinking along the lines of turn it down to say 95mm then make a spacer or adapter ring, but I held back as I suspected Pud may have a more immediate and value for money answer that works at shop floor level.

Hello Pud and guys,

My client used the tape fix yesterday and was well pleased with the results. Your idea underscores how often we overlook simple solutions because they don't seem "professional" enough.

Thanks again for the clever solution.
