Hi all

i need some help

i must manufacture the part in the attached file (the green faces) with 4 axis.

any suggestions?

Can you please provide file in a stp file? or parasolid? or any non-native NX file for that matter!

I'm in NX6 and I cannot open your file.

Why 4 axis? This can be manufactured using 3 axis.
What kind of toolpath are you thinkng about? How do you imagine the mill tool should behave? What version of NX you are using? NX7? NX7.5. Definitely not a NX6.
 
I agree with jarek30.

This part is a 3 axis kellering part.

4 axis OR 5 axis will not help in the manufacture of this part.

Use "Fixed axis contour" to cut it.

-3D milling

-Generating
-Ballnosing

Every company calls it something different.

I have ran some of those before as a Pattermaker but don't remember hearing that term beforel. Neat.

I always called it kellering as well. But, I was working with a Brit doing turbine machining and it became - point milling... yet another. :)

i know that it can be manufactured using 3 axis but i hgave to manufacture it using 4 axis.

Marina,

If you still insist to do the job 4 axis, there shouldn't be a big problem. You can use a mulit-axis operation and suboperation variable contour. You just have to have a good axis control. The best way to control the tool axis would be to use towards line or away form line, where you have to sketch the focal line and the tool axis will be always normal to it. Use a zig-zag pattern just to have movements across the cut surfaces.

Probably there are several other ways to do this. This is one of it.
