It should be not easy to predict the allowable stress of old wood. Maybe the best way will be to test it. Simply try to load the timber with for example 2-3 times higher load which will be normally applied.

Try to create the text by the „mtext“ command and set the color of the text for example to yellow (I think that it can’t be white). Hatch over the text by black solid. Now you can control the visibility through the “draworder” command. (draworder -> select hatching -> option back)

Try to import the sketch through the standard DWG/DXF Import. File -> Open -> In the Files type list box select the DWG or DXF and follow the import wizard options. (Maybe better should be to use the DXF format).
