    3D sketch - move?

    1. Place a point at the location you want to move to 2. Select everything in the sketch 3. Hold crtl button down 4. select the point in the sketch you want to move, and start to drag 5. let go of ctrl button 6. continue dragging and drop on point in step 1.

    GTCadGuy has a good point. Do you want the users to be able to create non-standard sizes?

    Ass'm files saved in another folder...

    This is one situation where using windows explorer will actually work. Any time an assembly or drawing is opened, it will look in its own folder before looking at the paths of the files.

    College setting: how much faster to learn & use is SW v. ProE?

    We had to take a machining class when I was in school. The goal was not necessarily to teach us how to be great machinists. The goal was showing what needs to be on the drawing for the machinist to get the part made right.

    Installing 06 will definately use your 05 SN. This should not be a problem unless you need different add-ins available. You could possibly create .reg files that would swap the serial numbers when needed

    Not sure if this is your issue, but do you have the following set under Sysem options, Drawings? Save tessellated data for drawings with shaded and draft quality views The draft/high quality setting could explain some of the "randomness"

    Go to Tools, Options, Document Properties tab, Annotations Display. Check the box next to "Always display text at the same size" Then it will not matter how far away those dimensions are!

    design library

    The design library is intended for reusable items - things you can drag and drop into another SWx file. How often do you need to insert a drawing into another file? According to the help file Use the File Explorer for opening drawings.

    I think the Limit mate is "limiting" this functionality. SWx 2005 removed the need for multiple configs when using flexible sub-ass'ys, but I have only used it with out any mate limiting the flexible motion.

    If you use a custom properties macro - like the ones in the thread smcadman referenced - and know a little VB, adding the drop down list would be easy. I do not know how to do it without a macro

    Do you know which PLM/PDM vault application you will be using? Some can do this automatically as the files are loaded into the system. Otherwise, I do believe there are some macros floating around somewhere that can do this.

    It gets created by working top-down in your assembly. Anytime you use Insert, New Component the first thing the software does is want you to select a face/plane to place the part on. The selected face will end up being the Front plane of the new part. The inplace mate basically is a mate...

    Excel BOM

    You will not be able to insert an Excel based BOM if another BOM already exists in the drawing file. If no others exist, it should not be dimmed.

    If you right-click on the BOM table there will be a Sort option. This will let you sort the table by specified BOM columns. We sort by part number. I do not know of a way to sort by assembly position, other than ordering the files in the ass'y feature tree to what you want and haveing the BOM...

    My company monitors. My boss gets a list of every site I visit with the number of hits per site (I get a copy). I am also the only one in the engineering group with any access at all - due to my support role. Everyone else must use seperate computers set up just for the internet...

    With the offending part open, try a CTRL-Q. This will force a hard rebuild.

    CBL is talking about plastic deformation, not a plastic material. There is one caveat with using the lofted bend command - because this is a type of plastic deformation, SWx does not calculate the stretch of the material. Adjusting the k-factor will make no difference what-so-ever in the size...

    Pattern vs. Hole wizard for hole series?

    You do not have to have HW to use Feature driven pattern. Having all of the holes in the HW sketch makes it difficult to find which point is the "seed". Your seed component should always be mated to the seed feature for the pattern to follow correctly. Therefore, I vote with CBL

    Dimensioning to Circular edges

    You can also just drag the dimension grip point to the quadrant - or if you are on 2006 - hold the shift key while dimensioning to the sides you want.
