Pattern vs. Hole wizard for hole series?

Just something I thought about on the drive in this morning. If you have a steel plate that needs to have a series of (20) holes, are there any advantages to using a pattern (linear or circular) over the hole wizard or vise versa?

I have a come-back quip combining your dream, the hole wizard & vise versa, but it would probably get me thrown out of Eng-Tips.

As for which is best ... IMO a feature pattern is always better than a sketch pattern. Whether the seed feature is created with regular geometry or with the HW is immaterial.

Can't you create a pattern within the hole wizard sketch?
Whichever way you go, the more holes in the pattern, the slower the rebuild time.

The Hole Wizard pattern offers the ability to pattern hardware off the same pattern doesn't it? I think HW has the advantage.

You do not have to have HW to use Feature driven pattern. Having all of the holes in the HW sketch makes it difficult to find which point is the "seed". Your seed component should always be mated to the seed feature for the pattern to follow correctly.

Therefore, I vote with CBL

I use sketch-driven patterns with no problems. I use the hole wizard for the first hole, then create a point sketch to drive the pattern of holes. The same pattern feature will be used in my assembly to populate the holes with screws.

yanceman ... if you make an assy of the "dream configs" you can have them all unsuppressed.

Now if I switch on the Animation add-in ... adjust the lighting ... set the limit mates ... OHHH WOW!!!
