Microstation VS others

Microstation VS others

Microstation VS others

(OP)
Hi All
I've been a Microstation user for 4 years now, and the last two months we have been looking new software and found softwares like CATIA or Pro/E or even unigraphics, that are parametric, with straight forward changes, and an infinite number of applications included. One big thing is that all those softwares make the 2d drawing automatically from the 3d including sections, details blablabla....
We are actually really surprsed of the capabilities of those cad, and finally we will get CATIA.

But a custion arised to me those days!! What is the use then for Microstation? (we design boats, we do the boat complete in 3d with MS in solids, including pipes systems, furniture, in other words, complete) As far I have seen, the capabilities of those softwares (catia, proe ux) cannot be compared with MS, they are ages awaay from it, but surprisigly the still sell MS for 4700$, that is more or less the price of Pro/E (Fundation). Did I missed something in Microstation???????? or is that is a software that is only dedicated to plant design and buildings...

Can someone explain me all these?

RE: Microstation VS others

What you have missed is people like me :-( who think in 2-D and draw in 2-D and only understand 2-D drawings.

What we need is a substitute of drawing board, paper and pencil. Autocad and Microstation are primarily exploiting this market.
