I make aluminum tool boxes....they tarnish quickly from raod salt...what clear protective coating can i put on it, and how do i prep the aluminum.......

Aluminium alloy wheels for automobiles use an acrylic powder coating to resist corrosion due to road deicing salts.  This should work well for you.  A typical procedure would be:

alkaline cleaning to remove oil, grease, etc.
chemical conversion coating
powder coating
