I am looking for a standard test (ASTM preferred) for the detection of the chloride ion. My application involves the corrosion of 300 series stainless steel autoclaves. I have some information about utilizing silver nitrate.

There are several methods of chloride ion determination. AASHTO has a method, ASTM has a method and several states have their own variations (Florida Method FM 5-516).

Ron,

Thanks. Since original posting, I have ordered ASTM D512-89 (99). If this proves insufficient, I may try AASHTO.
