RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

(OP)
what are the pros and cons of Monel over Neoprene lining over splash zone Riser pipe coating ?

RE: RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

Coating on what?
Any sun exposure?
Any risk of mechanical damage?

RE: RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

Pipeline riser.
Usually inside a guard structure, but workboat regularly take them both on.
Sun
Air
Wind
Waves
Salt water
Marine growth

RE: RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

I can't see neoprene holding up in the long term.

RE: RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

Pros: Durability (Reliability), Damage Tolerance, No external corrosion allowance

Cons: Cost, Availability

RE: RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

We always used black rubber vulcanised to the pipe or Splashtron. Both worked very well.

RE: RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

Polychloroprene around 15 mm or more, dependent upon metocean conditions, appears to have acceptable performance. Never had to deal with a monel clad riser although some operators have specifications for them in addition to those that they have for polychloroprene.

I missed another pro for monel: the finished pipe will not have to be shipped to and from a coating plant

I would use solid MONEL for everything, Ahmed ... You cannot be too safe ... Corrosion is 24/7

RE: RISER PIPE SPLASH ZONE PROTECTION - monel or neoprene

The whole pipeline, or just the splash zone?
