Double Arrows

Double Arrows

Double Arrows

(OP)
I think we've all seen situations where we need to include a reference dimension to some known surface or feature that happens not to be within the scope of the view we're delaing with. For example, you want to indicate the height of some object off the floor.

You would add the dimension, and on the dimension line to the referenced feature you would add a second arrowhead to indicate that the dimension is not connected to the referenced feature. I've also seen this method used to indicate diameters when only radii are shown. Its such a common thing that I was surprised to see that the SW pop-up menu for arrowhead selection does not include that option.

Does anyone here know what I'm talking about? And is there a way to create such an element? (To me, this is like a foreshortened dimension but different.)

RE: Double Arrows

I have never seen used for anything other than a foreshortened dimension.

RE: Double Arrows

This is something that when I worked for Berry we really, really needed in a bad way, but at the time (2010-2014) it was never made available. I thought this had been added over the years since then.

there is an option under Tools\options\Doc props\Dimensions\Linear

Then if you look in the help file it explains how to make it - https://help.solidworks.com/2022/english/solidwork...

Of course, each situation is different and might make adding that dimensions complex.

SBaugh, Thank you for that. I was already aware of that option on foreshortened dimensions. I just didn't want to go through all the many steps required to actually create a foreshortened dimension every time I just want a double arrow. But still, that is a legitimate reply to my question. Again, thanks.

RE: Double Arrows

The other solution would be to edit the gtol file. fcsuper's website says he has already done this for you, but I am having trouble finding it on his site. Maybe you will have better luck. if nothing else maybe you will be able to just change the gtol and get what you need from the information on his site or others that have posted about changing it.

I have changed the gtol file in the past so I know it can be done and it's not that hard to do. I had to make certain weld symbols in a previous job I held that SW did not provide.

Thanks very much! I will look into that.
