Rewire 3 phase electric motor (OLI MVE 1700/15N-60AO) from a closed thread

I found this thread: https://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=477338 where the poster asks how to use his 460v 3phase motor.

I did not see any simple answers in that thread.

Why not simply rewire the motor for 230V (it shows how right on the nameplate), then use the 220V from the generator into a cheap 3 phase VFD?

Am I missing something?

RE: Rewire 3 phase electric motor (OLI MVE 1700/15N-60AO) from a closed thread

If using from a VFD it would be possible, because the VFD could be programmed to provide 50Hz at 230V. But without the VFD, the motor would see 60Hz at 230V and the V/Hz ratio would be incorrect. Instead of getting the 4.6V/Hz it was designed for, it will get only 3.83V/Hz, so the motor will not produce full torque and likely run hot under the same load, shortening it's life.

What is the reason for supplying 50hz to a 60hz motor? At 230V instead of 460V the only difference (AFAIK) is the current drawn, and therefor some loss in efficiency.
