How inital design can be chosen for a composite?

I would like to investigate topology optimization of laminate composite with different initial designs. Are there any work, researchh papers or examples for inital design of laminate composite. For instance curved, flat ettc...???

The initial design depends on the application of a particular composite structure. There are some scientific articles about topology optimization of laminates but they either focus on a specific component (such as part of an aircraft) or use basic shapes only to present the novel approach to optimization.
