I submit this analysis with the nastran command :

nastran20131 old=no smp=2 news=no scr=no memory=8GB smemory=3200 /home/user/plaque_shell/loadcase_Fx.bdf

When I submit this analysis I get an error message in the f06 output file :

#### Quote:

*** USER FATAL MESSAGE 1145 (RSPRVR)
THE VERSION ID = 1 OF PROJECT ' "BLANK"' SPECIFIED ON RESTART CARD HAS BEEN DELETED
PRIOR TO THIS RUN. A RESTART IS IMPOSSIBLE.
*** SYSTEM INFORMATION MESSAGE 480 ()
JOB TERMINATED DUE TO ABOVE ERROR(S) IN THE FILE MANAGEMENT SECTION.

If I submit the loadcase_Fx.bdf first and then loadcase_Fz.bdf, I get results for Fx load case and error message with Fz load case.

If someone can help me to explain myself what is the problem.

thanks a lot

### RE: Restart impossible when I want to launch several load cases

The problem is with your restart version, every time you run a restart, the version of your MASTER is incremented by one, and the previous version MASTER is deleted by default. So, after you ran the Fz load, your version is now 2, but then your Fx run has the line "RESTART VERSION=1", which makes it look for a version that no longer exists.

Since nothing is really changing with your MASTER after each run, I would replace the line "RESTART VERSION=1" with just "RESTART". This allows Nastran to follow its default and just use the most recent version MASTER that it can find.

### RE: Restart impossible when I want to launch several load cases

(OP)

I have submit Fx load first and then Fz.

When I plot Fz results, and particulary Applied Loads, Translational, the Resultant it is a combination of Fx component and Fz component as you can see in the attached picture

.

I am not sure I understand. Normaly the Applied Load must be pure Fz and Fx component must be zero.

### RE: Restart impossible when I want to launch several load cases

Apologies nekcorp, I gave you bad advice! I didn't notice that both of your runs use a FORCE ID of 1 to apply the load. It seems that the restart process keeping the Fx load in the MASTER file after the Fx run, then it gets combined with you Fz load in the Fz run.

Try using "RESTART VERSION=1,KEEP". This will make sure you're only ever using the original MASTER, and specifying KEEP will prevent Nastran from deleting it.

Thanks a lot for your explanations ! all it is good now

### RE: Restart impossible when I want to launch several load cases

As Countryman pointed out, without the KEEP keyword, the versions in the MASTER/DBALL are incremented and the previous version deleted. With KEEP, a new version is added, but the previous version is not deleted. However, this means that every time you do a restart, a new version is added to the MASTER/DBALL database and its gets bigger and bigger. If your restart fails, you may end up with an unusable database. If you don't want this to happen, you can use the LOGICAL keyword when you assign the database, like this:

ASSIGN MAST1='plaque_shell.MASTER'
RESTART, VERSION=1, LOGICAL=MAST1

This is called a READ ONLY restart. The plaque_shell.MASTER and plaque_shell.DBALL files will not be touched by the restart but the data in them is made available for the current job. The current job (i.e. the restart job) will create its own MASTER/DBALL files if you use scr=no. This means you can use the restart database to do another restart, or do other restarts from the original database. It also means you can run the restart job with the scr=yes command line option if you do not want to make restarts from the restart.

Hi dmapguru,

thanks a lot for your precision. My goal it is to use a .MASTER and .DBALL file to have the model with boundary conditions and then use it to launch several load cases.

It is better to the .MASTER and .DBALL do not get bigger.
