Coating on Stainless Steel SA564 Gr.630 Steel Bars

(OP)
Hello,

I run a bolts and nuts business in Singapore and recently received a rather interesting enquiry for SA564 Gr.630 Studbolt which require Ceramic Base Coating + PTFE Top Coat (Xylar 2 + Xylan) and Zinc Nickle Plating Base Coat + PTFE Top Coat (Xylan 1070 Blue). Taking into consideration that the bar is of Gr.630, can anyone assist to explain the need for the base coat Xylar2 / Zinc Ncikle as the steel bar material has strong corrosion resistance characteristics.

Kind regards,

CHARLES GOMEZ

It's a standard offshore fastener protection system. The Grade 630 may be classed as a stainless steel, but its marine atmospheric corrosion resistance is not that great, and wouldn't be classed as "strong."
