Pipe Pile Fabrication Process

Pipe Pile Fabrication Process

Pipe Pile Fabrication Process

(OP)
This may not be the best place for this, but as "Off Shore Structure Engineering" is the only option in Marine/Ocean Engineering I'll give it a shot.

ASTM A252 Grade 3 Pipe piles for pier and marina construction. They are commonly available in ERW, roll and weld, and spiral weld. Is there any evidence (anecdotally or through rigorous research, though research is always better) of a variation in structural performance between the methods? I imagine the failure modes would vary some, but given the variables in marine structure design I tend to keep my designs conservative and well within the elastic range. Therefore, my question is primarily with regard to elastic behavior, though any insights would be appreciated.

Thanks!

RE: Pipe Pile Fabrication Process

I do find that the weld seam of carbon steel pipe corrodes at a substantially higher rate than the rest of the pipe. One type of construction may more detrimentally affected by this loss of the weld seam.
