PET film for tobacco packaging

PET film for tobacco packaging

PET film for tobacco packaging

(OP)
Hi,
I have developed a PET film that can be used in tobacco packaging. The cost, conservatively, is at least 20% than that of the BOPP film that is widely used in this industry. The advantages are lower manufacturing cost and PET is more environmental friendly than BOPP.

I was wondering if this is a good product to go ahead to promote. I am not from the packaging industry. I just happen to try out a new recipe in a small extrusion machine. The results looks promising.

ANy feedback or advice will be much appreciated ! Thank you

RE: PET film for tobacco packaging

I am not an expert in this area but I find it surprising that PET would cost less than PP. Also, is this not a "heat-shrink-film" application? Does your PET work for that? Also, heat sealing ability is needed, I believe.

Hi Compositepro,

Yes, the current estimation is that this PET film is cheaper than BOPP. Yes, you are right that to a certain extent, it also has heat shrink properties, but the recipe and process parameters are entirely different from that of heat shrink film. To answer your question, yes, it shrinks in both MD and TD direction, evenly. And it also has heat sealing ability, 120 deg C in 2 seconds.

regards,
