Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

(OP)
Hey
I have a Mazak laser 1300 W champion STX-48. Power is supposed to be 1300W but the average output power starts running at 500w and it keep on decreasing to 250w. Hence we are not able to cut anything on the laser. Can any one suggest what is the reason of the decline in the output power of the laser.

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

How many hours are on the resonator?
when did you last have it serviced?
have you changed the pre-mix gas bottle? did the problem happen after this change?

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

This could be something in the resonator, or it could be as simple as having a cover not completely closed.
Are you reading this power on the Command screen? Are you sure you are calling up full power?

I just checked. it overdue a service as it has 5000 hrs and need replacement of output coupler, rear mirror and bend mirrors.
But is it possible to replace all these parts on our own or do we have to call Mazak guys for that?

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

You are past your scheduled maintenance period.  The problem could be as simple as a bad or contaminated output coupler.  I would recommend calling the Mazak Service Support staff (847-252-4600) and discuss problem further.  We can have you do a few troubleshooting tests which will further help us pin-point the problem area.  Even if you have a bad output coupler, the average power should not be as low as 250-500w.  It may be something far simpler and we may be able to get you up and running until a service visit can be scheduled.

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

Actually the suggestion about whether you changed your laser gas bottle recently is a very good one.  If you obtained a bottle with the incorrect mixture, you may not get much power at all out of the resonator. If you can change the to one from a new batch and cycle the machine on and off serveral times, you may be up and running again.

We checked the rear mirror and found that there is spot on the mirror which we think is the root of the problem. So we have to get it replaced anyways but thanks a lot for your help in this matter MAZAKLASER.

But could the spot on the rear mirror be a result of incorrect mixture of gases.

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

Where is the spot? inside or outside face of mirror.
Any way best to call Mazak and getthem to service it. 5000hrs is a long time between service but this is a strong point of the Mazak it will keep on going but if you leave it too long then problems like this are not picked up and if left can lead to more problems.

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

Spot is on the outside face of the mirror. We are arranging to get the service done but just wanted to knew if bad mixture could be a cause of spot on the mirror

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

The gas only touches the inside surface of the mirrors inside the resonator, so if the spot is on the outside then it is due to outside dust.

Ok Then problem seems to be with the servicing. Thanks a lot for your help in this matter

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

Please let us know how you get on after the service.

I will keep updating you guys. Thanks again

We got a tech from MAZAK working on the machine and after changing the rear mirror, output coupler and bend mirror we are not getting even a beam output.
Could it be a bad resonator or what. Before the tech replaced mirror and all, we were getting beam output. The only problem was the output power.

Can any one guide me in this.

When we replace the mirror and all does the beam alignment goes off or not.

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

When resonator mirrors are replaced the external beam alignment will be out and needs re-alignment. When u say he is getting no beam out do you mean no beam directly out of the resonator?

He will tune the mode and callibrate the power directly out of the resonator and when this is done he should then work on re-aligning the external mirrors. If there is no beam at all coming out of the reso then this could point to an internal resonator alignment problem or it could just be a faulty output coupler.

If you have an actual Mazak engineer then all will be fine as this is what we do day in day out so you are in good hands.

Of course keep us posted and where are you based?

RE: Mazak Laser STX-48 Champion

(OP)
We are based in Canada. The Mazak tech had a look at it and has referred us to Panasonic. The resonator on our machine is a DC Panasonic. By beam i mean that there is no beam what so ever not even the internal resonator.
