Going between Mathcad and Excel

Going between Mathcad and Excel

Going between Mathcad and Excel

I was asked to set up a Mathcad sheet to analyze data taken from different people in the shop testing different heat exchangers.  The Mathcad sheet is completely built and functioning properly.  The problem is that no one else knows how to use Mathcad and therefore refuses to.  Is there a way for me to have them plug data from testing into Excel and use Mathcad to calculate the desired values and read them back into Excel?  Thanks

RE: Going between Mathcad and Excel

Yes.  There is an Excel add-in that allows you to embed a Mathcad sheet inside an Excel sheet.  You can pass variables to the Mathcad sheet, run the calculations, and pass the answers back.  The add-in should be available for download on the PTC support website.

RE: Going between Mathcad and Excel

I have used the Excel add-in that IRStuff refers to.  When you download it, it also comes with some tutorials/example problems that help you learn how to manage the variable exchange into and back out of the MathCad kernel.

The only problem you might encounter with your application is with licensing.  I think the end user needs to have Mathcad installed on their computer while using this plug-in.  If this is not the case, please let us know - I could make use of a similar application.

RE: Going between Mathcad and Excel

If it's merely a matter of importing the data from a worksheet, why not use the Data Input component?  That will handle an Excel worksheet.

RE: Going between Mathcad and Excel

Thanks for the suggestions. I am getting an error Message that reads "Microsoft Excel is waiting for another application to complete an OLE application" every time I insert my Mathcad sheet.  I'm thinking the program cannot handle some of the equations in the Mathcad sheet?

RE: Going between Mathcad and Excel

No, that's usually an indication that the installation didn't work right.  You may need to reinstall it.  Note also, that there is often undesirable interactions between different versions of Mathcad...
