Evaluation of laser performance, expert witness

We've been having a lot of problems with a 4000 watt laser purchased new in Jul-03 and still under warranty.  Cutting primarily carbon steel from 3/16" to 5/8".  Downtime and service calls have been excessive from our perspective.  Considering legal action but we'd like an objective evaluation of the situation from an independent party with the experience and knowledge to make a recommendation.  Could end up serving as an expert witness if litigation becomes necessary.

What kind of laser is it?

I'd rather not mention the manufacturer at this time but it is a 2d CO2 4000 watt laser with a 48 x 120 table.

Just to give you an idea, we got a new laser in July of '03 too.  We now have 4700 hours on it, not one service call.  Our load/unload cell had one glitch, it took 2 different guys and 3 days to fix.  I would say anything under 90% uptime is unacceptable.  I'm no expert, but if there is anything I can do to help let me know.  I understand the stress when a machine isn't running right.

Thanks for the response.  Would you be willing to briefly discuss my issue on the phone?  If so please send me you phone number at macamaj@hotmail.com and I'll give you a call.  I appreciate your assistance.

I can only think of one laser with that bed size, edit your post.

My previous post was incorrect.  The table size is 5'x10'.

We was heaved similar problem, but now everything is ok. First check your work condition like electricity, ambient temperature (15-35 C) and operators experience, and others things from your contracts.
