Aircraft Design Courses
Aircraft Design Courses
(OP)
I’m a practicing engineer with a background in fatigue & damage tolerance, project management, and MSG3/reliability-centered maintenance. Through self-study, I’ve got a fairly good overview of classical methods of aerodynamics & aircraft design, and I’m looking for a one-week-ish course, taught in English, to fill the gaps & provide some sort of gestalt.
The two courses that seem to be most applicable are...
Aircraft Conceptual Design
Daniel Raymer
Conceptual Research Corporation
http://www.aircraftdesign.com/shortcrs.html
and
Airplane Preliminary Design
Jan Roskam
University of Kansas
http://www.kuce.org/aero/apd.html
Torenbeek of Delft also used to do a one-week course, although as far as I know this is no longer available.
Has anyone attended these courses? What were your impressions? I’m especially interested in the balance achieved with respect to qualitative versus quantitative understanding. I have looked at Raymer's "Aircraft Design: A Conceptual Approach" and Roskam's books. Both authors’ content looks good - does it reflect the flavour of their courses?
Thanks in advance for any info!

RE: Aircraft Design Courses
I took the pregrade course taught by mister Raymer, and was great, mainly due to very simple Raymer´s approach. It was clear and easy to follow, but I found it a little bit slow, specialy regarding to graphs and data already displayed on the book and by himself.
To clarify you, I recommend a complementary course based in Roskam´s series. He focused the analysis on numbers and ecuations. Both approaches are quite good
