I’m a practicing engineer with a background in fatigue & damage tolerance, project management, and MSG3/reliability-centered maintenance. Through self-study, I’ve got a fairly good overview of classical methods of aerodynamics & aircraft design, and I’m looking for a one-week-ish course, taught in English, to fill the gaps & provide some sort of gestalt.
The two courses that seem to be most applicable are...
Aircraft Conceptual Design
Daniel Raymer
Conceptual Research Corporation
and
Airplane Preliminary Design
Jan Roskam
University of Kansas
Torenbeek of Delft also used to do a one-week course, although as far as I know this is no longer available.
Has anyone attended these courses? What were your impressions? I’m especially interested in the balance achieved with respect to qualitative versus quantitative understanding. I have looked at Raymer's "Aircraft Design: A Conceptual Approach" and Roskam's books. Both authors’ content looks good - does it reflect the flavour of their courses?
Thanks in advance for any info!
