I would like to know if it is possible to model a porosity (internal flaw) using Xfem in Abaqus. My idea is to introduce many volumetric flaws in the material. However, the global mesh should be independent of the position and dimensions of these flaws.

Thank you.

I will try to explain what I need in more details. I know that Abaqus is capable of performing crack simulations utilizing XFEM. However, I dont want to perform a crack simulations. I want to model some voids utilizing XFEM... this way the mesh doesn't need to be aligned with the boundaries of the voids. Do you know if is it possible to perform this simulation in Abaqus utilizing the XFEM capabilities? Maybe I will need to change the enrichment functions...

Thank you in advance.
