Dear All,

Please help me to resolve the below-mentioned issue.

"Welding of pulling lug (P-10H)UNS 31803 with Tube sheet (P-8) SS304 done with Wrong filler wire (ER316L), PQR qualified with wire ER2209, Impact test not required and construction code is ASME SEC VIII Div-1 2019, As per ASME Sec IX-2019, is it permissible to use any other filler wire within SFA specification number by keeping all other essential variables not changed".

I think that F-No, F6, is the essential variable and A.No. is not, as I recall. But will 316 satisfy corrosio/errosion service? In the event that A-No is not an essential variable and the filler metal meets the service requirements, you would still need to write a new WPS and you should write an NCR with your disposition. If A-No is an essential variable, you must requalfy the procedure using ER316 filler if you intend to let it remain as currently welded

If I were the Customer, I doubt that i would let you use the weldment as is. And if I were the customer, I would have written the specification such that A-No. was to be considered an essential variable for this WPS and PQR.

A number is an essential variable.
At a quick glance they are both A8 - you will need to look into it a bit more closely yourself.
As Weldstan noted there could be metallurgical concerns that would not allow the substitution.
