Workbench plastic analysis (material)

Hello,

When I perform a non-linear material analysis in workbench, only the equivalent plastic strain can be plotted. How can I see the max. principal plastic strain? Can equivalent plastic strain be compared to ultimate rupture strain?

Hi,
ANSYS, as the majority of the general-purpose FEA codes, determines yielding based on Von Mises criterion:
"Equivalent stress is part of the maximum equivalent stress failure theory used to predict yielding in a ductile material" (taken from ANSYS Workbench Simulation Help).
So, you won't find a max principal plastic strain based on Trescà-Guest, as it would be required by EN13445 for example. But in this case, taking the Equivalent Plastic strains and multiplying them by SQRT(3)/2 (the maximum ratio between the two criteria) leads to slightly conservative results.
