work part in assembly

when i come back into an assembly, i want the assembly to be the work part, not the part that i've just come from.
I changed the default, "maintain work part" in the assembly's heading, thinking that should do it, but it's still the same. ??

OK, are you changing this in Customer Defaults or Preferences -> Assemblies... ?

The 'problem' here is that the setting in the Customer Defaults ONLY has an effect on a system where the user has NEVER set this option under Preferences. You see, since the Preferences -> Assemblies... setting is written to the registry but the Customer Default setting is not, the registry setting is the one that is used when a session starts.

Now one could argue that this is 'bug' and perhaps it is, but at the moment, that is how it's working.
