I have a wood framed structure with rot/termite damage on the lower portion of the structure. I am attempting to develope a stud splice and jamb splice repair so that only the bottom, deteriorated portion of the stud needs to be removed and a new stud can be scabbed to it. Are there typical details or rules of thumb for this type of repair (keeping in mind that spliced studs will be unbraced by the interior wall sheathing and the splices may occur at the point of inflection for euler buckling)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
