I'm impressed of the functionality of Working Model 2D, but I wonder if there is a similar software which allows a more precise definition of the elements: for example, I would need a parametrical definition of the elements, with dimensions for lengths, widths, position of pin connections, etc. Could somebody give me a hint?

You could try Autodesk Inventor, which will allow you to generate parametric mechanisms, although I suspect you'll be disappointed with what you can do with it once it is built. Solidworks has a similar capability.

The grown-up mechanisms analysis programs handle this via a different method, using templates to generate parametric models.

Ok...and which would be those "grown-up mechanisms analysis programs"? Do you have some examples? I'm not necesary interested in analysis of 3D mechanisms, but more in 2D...

ADAMS and its competitors will happily work in 2D. However they are a big step up in complexity, WM2D is undoubtedly one of the sweetest programs around.

I think SolidEdge offers their 2D drawing program for free. I haven't used it though.

You can get the 2D Solid Edge for free, I'm not sure how much of the 'optimization' capabilities it has included though.

KENAT,

Have you reminded yourself of faq731-376 recently, or taken a look at posting policies: What is Engineering anyway: faq1088-1484
