Hey Guys...
Lets say I have a part that was imported .stp, igs what ever. The part imports with errors. If I go in and try to extrude off the offending flange(s)I receive an error that it does not intersect with the model, even though it is shown in a preview that it is cutting thru. I'm doing this by sketching on one of the planes.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

Ken

After import did you run import diagnostics? Did that fix the errors?

Run Import Diagnostics, as Heckler said, when importing the part. So, to answer your question, the reason you get the error is (most likely) because you don't have a solid body. The import error probably has a lame surface that leaves your surface set open at some point--meaning it isn't solid. So if you use solid tools (such as an extruded cut), it doesn't have anything to cut.

Seal your surfaces by importing with the Diagnostics on import, or do it manually with Surface tools. You can then Knit the surfaces, selecting the Make Solid option to create a solid (also other ways to make a solid, but this is simple if patching surfaces manually).

I think it is coming in as surfaces. I do run the diagnostics with no avail. The only option there was to remove the surface (then I could "see inside" of the flanges)
I'll try playing with the surface tools and see what happens.

Thanks,

Ken

You can tell what you have in the Feature Manager tree (FM) there you will see either a Surface folder or a Solid body folder.. you could eve see both. So you should be able to answer rockguy's question.

Got it...What I did was delete all the inner surfaces then used the "thicken" command. at that point I could then insert bends and unfold.

Thanks everyone.
