Why do we have some motors star and some delta wound in marine application with same line voltage?

Your answer:
1 It depends.
2 It doesn't matter, unless you intend to use star/delta starting. Star delta starting will only work on the lower of the two motor rated voltages.
NEMA (North American) motors tend to be 9 lead motors, either star or delta, suitable for series or parallel connection and a voltage ratio of 2:1 Star is more common.
IEC motors tend to be 6 lead motors suitable for either star or delta connection with a 1.73:1 voltage ratio.

The motors I have seen are almost always delta. I suppose the star connection is used if you need smaller power.
