Hello!

I have a question:
which software do you guys use for seismic analysis of new/existing buildings?
I need a software that is good - especially for masonry residental buidlings.
Im from Europe so I use Eurocodes.
Tnx for helping.

regards

How detailed are you looking to get? If you only need to do an equivalent static analysis, then almost any program will do, STAAD, RISA, etc. And they have codes built in too.

STAAD can handle an RSA analysis, but if you are modeling walls as plates, something a little more advanced might be better for a more advanced RSA analysis, something like SAP. Not sure how SAP handles codes though.

Of course, if money is no object, ANSYS will take care of anything you need

Just to be clear, RISA doesn't have any Euro codes for walls. At least not to my knowledge.

Also, since the new RISA overlords (Nemetschek) have a European program (SCIA) it is reasonable to expect that RISA will abandon the European market (and that SCIA will similarly abandon the American market).

Probably should mention some obvious caveats.... so the new incarnation of RISA doesn't decide to sue me.

I used to be a Vice President of RISA under the original ownership. However, I now work for one of their competitors (SAP/ETABS/CSI). Therefore, while I attempt to be fair in my posts, I cannot be viewed as a neutral / independent observer on the subject of RISA.

So I've noticed. [wink]

I don't use it but I hear 3Muri is very good software for masonry.
