Is there any cheaper CAD programs that are the same or close to the AutoDesk brand?

No, not really. None are the same or provide near enough funtionality. INTELLICAD is close but no cigar, but it's pretty cheap (used to be free, don't know now)

Autocad LT is pretty inexpensive at about $800 / seat. I find it has almost everything you need if you work in 2D. Check out Alibre for 3D work.

Intellicad ain't bad...especially for the price!!!

You might also look into PowerCAD from Give Me Power. It's available in two or three levels, is fairly inexpensive, and it can handle AutoCAD files. It's known as Felix in some parts of the world.

donovanb2,

I have used TurboCad.
It is a great program and easy to use.
I actually like it better than AutoCad.

You should check this website.
They have free CAD programs (2D & 3D) available.
TurboCad was free at one time and I believe that it can still be found for free, somewhere on the Internet.

Cadvance 6.5 1996 Windows version available free at You can later to upgrade 2000 if you want to spend the money. I've used it for 20 yrs and it is completly compatible with Autocad 2000.

Good Luck,

MarkEE

I remember learning TurboCAD in school. It was easy to use, but limited since it IS only 2D. Gonna go check out the V4 Learning Edition, tho. Thx MikeMillburn.
