when we should using bolt tensioner and torque wrench 2

Hello engineer,

please kindly help me when we should using bolt tensioner and torque wrench?
as example, a flow line have flange joint with 12 stud bolts.
how we will tighten this bolts? using bolt tensioner or torque wrench?
anyboday have its standard like ASME or other standard?

Torque wrench for small flanges with small studs.

Torque-limited pneumatic impact gun for larger ones.

Bolt tensioner for VERY large ones.

Break points between them depend on how much room you have to work with, and how critical it is that the joint seal and stay sealed.

No ASME rules related to this that I'm aware of.
 
We define the difference between large and small based on the torque required to tightened the nut.

For small fasteners it is limited to 200 lbs/f, normally slightly above midpoint on the smaller torque wrenches, On larger wrenches the limit is 300 lbs/f on the handle even if using a torque multiplier (4:1}. In this range where there is constraint on the mechanic we will use a wrench similar to the Hytorc up to 80% of the rated capacity of the wrench.

The criteria for using a tensioner is above the limits of the hydraulic wrench and in cases where we need multiple bolts tightened at time. In one case where we use a tensioner is on autoclave that requires very even tightening due to gasket design.
 
so there aren't any statement in ASME, API, ISO or other standard define when should we use tensioner or torque wrench, aren't ?
 
Please consider ASME PCC-1 - 2010 Para. 10.1 (Tightening Method/Load-Control Technique)...

ASME PCC-1-2010 has an updated table which recommends assembly tools based upon fluid service and criticality
