Where do you guys typically draw the line on using a pedestal or not? Is it based off of footing size? Load? Frost depth? Do you use it for nearly any exterior condition?

thank you!

Usually depends on if I think it's cost effective. If I have to upgrade my concrete PSI too much, add a ton of rebar, require specialty fill/compaction or flare the column I'll usually tell them to just pour a monolith. I work mostly residential so there special column shapes, rebar over stronger than #5(G40), concrete over 3000 PSI or arduous compaction/fill requirements the contractors either don't have the tools or experience to deal with it.
