When performing weave technique on pipe weld per the WPS is there a code specific on max of how wide the weave can be in a single pass using GTAW process? I can not find in any ASME or API code. I would think that as long as you keep your machine settings in the parameters of the WPS, it wouldn't matter how wide the weave is providing complete fusion is being achieved. I keep hearing the 3x diameter of the wire being used. That would seem like it would apply to stringer beads rather than the weave. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

There is no Code restriction; however, excessive weaving will promote greater heat input, which can adversely affect mechanical properties of the weld and its corrosion resistance.
