when a elastic material like rubber stretched work done
in stretching against restoring forces is stored as potential
energy,same as a spring.
a rubber can do work if we attach a load to it
while regaining original length.
where as in ideal gas which also resists compression
and that work done is internal energy increase.
why it is not stored as poten.energ.
p.e is arises when ever there is a resistance(force) and work done against it,hence there is change in position or configuratuion, hence p.e.
1. ideal gas compression also has resistence why this not called p.e.
2.if itis not so then how this work of compression rises temperature how can we physically visualise this
rise and prove microscopically ,how their momentum riseby
compression.

Pressure in gasses is considered an indicator of potential energy, a kind of specific potential energy, if I may say so.

If there is a vessel, V capacity (volume), containing a gas under pressure P (gauge pressure) its potential energy due to pressure difference to ambient pressure is:

Ep = P*V

You may check by making a dimensional analysis and you will see that P*V has the same dimension as of energy or work:

F*L (force multiplied by length)

when rubber is stretched and stay that way you will notice that it will get warm for a short period of time until it has lost it thermal energy to ambient conditions. When you release the rubber from it's stretched position, it will get cool until it absorb heat from ambient conditions.
Gas will get worm when you compress it. In its compressed state it has this potential energy just like your stretched rubber band. When the compressed gas get cooled and you decompress it,it will get cool just like you rubber band.
